Directions

1. Suspend the fluid containers (e.g. 2x5 liter bags) from a convenient support. To increase flow rates increase the height of suspension above the animal. As two more bags are normally used, suspend the bags at slightly different heights (e.g. by more than 10cm) so the bags finish at different times.

  1. Remove set from pack. Close off both on/off Click Clamps on the inlet tubes above the drip chamber.

  2. Remove the cap from one inlet perforator. Push
the perforator into the outlet port of one fluid bag, breaking the seal and ensuring a secure connection.

  3. To maintain firm connection, push the perforator supports into seam holes either side of the bag outlets.

  4. Repeat steps 3 and 4 with the second perforator and bag.

  5. Prime the set; close the on/off Slide Clamp on the coil of the set. Observing aseptic technique, remove the cap of the Luer Lock (at the distal end). Open the blue air vent on top of the burette chamber. NB: The set features an air vent with anti bacterial filter to prevent the ingress of bacteria. Open the on/off Click Clamp of one fluid bag to allow fluid to part fill the burette chamber until sufficient depth is achieved; then close the air vent to stop further filling. (A depth of about 70 ml usually prevents air bubbles reaching the bottom of the chamber). This procedure allows the outlet
tube to be filled with little or no entrained bubbles. To conveniently adjust the depth of fluid in the chamber, open or close the appropriate combinations of the air vent and on/off Slide Clamp on the coil to stop flow as desired.

  6. Additives or other drugs may be introduced via the injection sites on the burette top or near the Luer Lock.

  7. If necessary the drip rate can be adjusted using the Roller Clamp or Screw Clamp according to preference.

  8. Two plastic ties are provided. The non-releasable type is used to hold the releasable tie in place on the distal end of the tubing. The cable tie is used to secure the tubing. The releasable tie is used to secure the tubing to the braded mane, collar or other convenient point near the catheterization site.
